OMG TV: Once in a while, Doogie is gimmick enough

8:30 - How I Met Your Mother (CBS)

What? No annoying ratings-grab stuntcast guest star this week? I was expecting something like George Wendt and Tiffany. Now that’s instant Emmy material.

9:00 - John Adams (HBO)

I’m so far behind on John Adams, but the title of this one - “Unnecessary War” - smacks of topicality. Watch as the young nation leads an incursion into France, only to endure a long, violence-ridden occupation and crappy movies like Lions for Lambs.

10:30 - The Paper (MTV)

The high school journalism kid in me actually wants to check out this new MTV reality show, but my worry is that it’ll be more The Hills than All the President’s Men.

Late Night

Al Pacino does his best Al Pacino impression on Letterman, John Waters and the Hot Chick from Battlestar Galactica on Ferguson, John Legend and Chris Matthews on Colbert, Conan’s on vacation and Leno’s guests suck.
