One of my favorite things about having moved to New York is the amount of guerrilla marketing that I am now exposed to. Companies are always having promotions and events designed to drum up media and tourist attention. Sometimes though, companies should really look at the big picture. For example, Monday I could have stopped by Central Park to try out the new Wii game: Wii Fit.

The all-day Wii Fit party is doubling as an American Heart Association Fundraiser and a celebration of May as National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. There are celebrity trainers giving tips and many Wii Balance Boards, which feature more than 40 physical activities, including yoga!

And Tuesday, I could stop by Rockefeller Center to try out the new Wii game: Major League Eating, The Game.

The face-off will pit Timothy Janus, AKA Eater X, against Crazy Legs Conti. Janus is the tiramisu-eating champion off the world and set the record for tamales by downing 71 in 12 minutes; Conti’s a regular at Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest and wowed fans by eating his way out of a 96-cubic foot sarcophagus of popcorn at the debut of his own movie, Zen and The Art of Competitive Eating.

Today, you can stop by the Staten Island Ferry to try out the new game, Wii Binge and Purge!

cookiesIf you give a highway a truck full of cookies, it is going to ask for a truck full of milk.

Yesterday, a truck full of cookies crashed in Chester, Pennsylvania. This morning, a tanker of milk crashed 40 miles away. Without a doubt, this is the most delicious combination of accidents since 1945, when a plane carrying steak and ribs to the troops overseas crashed shortly after takeoff into a Barbeque Sauce Factory.

My plans for the weekend have been finalized. See everyone on Monday.

The meme circulating the interwebs right now is that the Library of Congress has posted 3,000 photos up on their flickr site. This is out of a potential 14 million images the archives has stored. The photos up right now have no known copyright protection and the library is hoping that people will use flickr to tag and sort them, which people are going with Gusto. After doing my due diligence and sorting through some old photos, I have come to realize one thing…

Rosie1

…those Rosie the Riveter types were really hot! I mean, check this one out…

…Damn. I mean, I finally understand the reason for the baby boom, am I right fellas? *rim shot*

I highly recommend checking out the collection, and not just for the eye candy. It has some amazing historical shots, and I am all for the Government opening up its archives to the masses.
