OMG TV: New York, Revisted

Posted by Josh in , , , , , , , , ,

New Amsterdam

Maybe it is because I am in the process of moving there, but everything on TV tonight seems to have a distinctly New York vibe. If you play your cards right, you can see several very different versions of the Big Apple.

8:00 pm – New Amsterdam (FOX)

See New York through the eyes of a Dutch soldier who, in 1642, was granted immortality. Today, he is an alcoholic detective who broods a lot. He will only begin to age and die when he finds true love. Standing in his way is the fact that he insists on wearing wooden clogs.

11:00 pm – Real Housewives of New York City (Bravo)

This spin-off of the smash hit (maybe?) The Real Housewives of Orange County looks to be so unpleasant and grating it can only be brought to us by Bravo. This review spews vitriol at a level we at 2.0somethings can only aspire to. This is a view of New York that embraces the worst aspects of rampant consumerism and gross overspending.

8:00 pm – Death Wish 3 (AMC)

Finally, a version of New York with street crime. Charles Bronson plays an Architect who is mad as hell and not going to take it anymore, vigilante-style. If only he would leave the drugdealers alone and start targeting the Real Housewives of New York City.

Late Night

The big guys continue to be on vacation. Ralph Nader stops by the Daily Show to announce his Presidential campaign, again, but this time to kids who are too hungover to get up for Meet the Press. Colbert has author Jennifer 8. Lee, maybe he will ask her why her middle name is a number.
