The whole summer sabbatical was totally engineered by me, since I didn’t want to deal with anymore crappy summer reruns and – Titan, forgive me – even American Gladiators was starting to bore me. But we’re a month into the fall season – or, if you’re watching Fox, days away from the beginning of it. So on with the show!
8:30 – Monday Night Football: Colts at Titans (ESPN)
One of these teams is 6-0, one is 3-3. And Peyton, buddy, you ain’t undefeated. Bizarre. (Jeff’s weekly fantasy implication: Colts defense.)
8:35 – The Life and Times of Tim (HBO)
In the same vein as Seinfeld and Always Sunny, The Life and Times of Tim is an absurdly irreverent cartoon that makes you hate yourself for laughing at something so freaking dumb. And if that’s not what television is for, then I don’t know what I’m doing with my life.
9:00 – Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations (Travel)
Tony’s in the Southwest, and Ted Nugent is too. Nuff said.
10:02 – Boston Legal (ABC)
Spader and Shatner head out to a Dude Ranch, and Betty White (pictured) is in the hizzouse. Yeah, that’s Betty freakin’ White. Damn.
Late Night
Bill O’Reilly brings his sparring gloves to Letterman, Chris Rock allows Leno one use of the racial epithet of his choice, Charles Barkely bets Conan $125,000 that he doesn’t have a gambling problem, Campbell Brown is delectable on The Daily Show, and… Yo-Yo Ma on Colbert.

8:00 – Animal House (AMC)
My single biggest regret from college, honestly, is not getting to know a cool professor, particularly one like Donald Sutherland in Animal House. And not just because that dude had some chill grass.
9:00 EST – NBA Finals Game 6 (ABC)
It’s back in Boston, baby, and I bet you this entire blog that the Celtics put it away. (Don’t tell Josh.)
10:00 – 30 Days (FX)
Morgan Spurlock’s documentary series is often a great way to shed light on a group of people who I can’t stand. But tonight’s might push me over the edge: a hunting activist moves in with a PETA protester. I really honestly can’t tell who I want to be dropped down a mineshaft more.
10:00 – Jim Gaffigan: Beyond the Pale (Comedy Central)
I do a killer Jim Gaffigan impression. Particularly that bit he always does with the high pitched internal monologue of some confused prude in the audience. “What is he doing up there? I’m uncomfortable!” Trust me, it’s great.
Late Night
Might I interest you in some Steve Carrell and Lance Armstrong on Letterman? No? Then I strongly recommend Don Rickles and Charles Barkley on Leno. Not your speed? Hmm. Well, I don’t think you would like the Megan Mullally on Conan, but maybe the CBS News cutie Lara Logan on The Daily Show, or the author Jonathan Zittrain on Colbert would meet your fancy.

8:00 – Democratic Presidential Debate (Everywhere)
All the idiotic bickering on the debate stage recently almost makes me miss the days of Dodd, Biden, Gravel, Richardson, Kucinich and Edwards being up there too. Almost.
8:00 – Black Hawk Down (FX)
Just wait, Sinbad’s going to come out and cast doubt on the veracity of this story too.
10:00 – South Park (Comedy Central)
Matt and Trey have been kickin’ ass this season (though, sure, a bit uneven last week). The 30 second preview posted on southparkstudios.com was enough to get me to tune in tonight.
Late Night
Letterman is forced to revisit his sordid Oscar-hosting past when Uma Thurman swings by, Charles “I’m not Gnarls” Barkley is on Leno, Jackie “I too am not Gnarls” Chan is on Ferguson, Colbert continues his PA swing with the state’s governor and, more importantly, the Eagles Cheerleaders, Stewart has some dude and Conan’s on vacation.
