I got clothes in different area codes

Sure, maybe area codes are quickly becoming a vestige of technology long gone by — how many phone numbers have you actually memorized in the past decade?— but they’re still a great way to rep your hometown.  Check out MikeJames Clothing’s killer t-shirts, which will help you pimp your digits if you’re from LA, the Bay Area, NYC, Boston or any number of other locales.  And you’ll even help out a little — $1 from each purchase goes to your chosen area code’s YMCA.  Way back in the day I was a 510 before getting switched to a 925… think I can still pull it off?

Inauguration Tuxedos

Because all of you are dedicated followers of Presidential fashion, I am sure you already know that President Obama has already picked a tux for the inaugural balls he will be attending Jan. 20th (Your editors won’t be at a “ball” so much as we will be face down in a  gutter outside the cheapest DC bar we can find, still feebly trying to cheer). However, fashionistas will note that Obama’s tuxedo choice is much like Obama himself: solid, dependable and not really very flashy. In stepped the good people at WWD, who solicited submissions from dozens of today’s biggest designers to see what they think Obama should wear.

My favorites are included above and listed from left to right. A Tim Hamilton double-breasted tux with the collar undone says “I’m the new president and I’m here to party.” My absolute favorite is the midnight blue tux from Nautica which is cooler and slightly more contemporary; Obama is a President for the new millenium after all.  The entry from Brioni takes a classic approach that is pretty much unimpeachable. And finally, I think we all secretly wish that people still dressed in suits like the one from Rag and Bone for political functions (or is that just me?). Check out the complete 52-page look book of Presidential style below thatalso  includes ties and suits for the day.

Test your style, get an ego boost

Posted by Josh in , , , ,

Over at the Men’s Health Web site, they have a small flash game that lets you “Test Your Style Sense.” I went over to take the test, and here was my submission:

Test Your Style Sense

Pretty sharp, I know. Quite simply, I knocked it out of the park. Men’s Health Fashion Editor Brian Boyé even said I get “Extra Credit.” Needless to say, I was feeling pretty good about myself. However, when I started to mess around with the game some more, I realized it is incredibly difficult to do poorly. It took me quite a while to get one wrong, and I was trying! I would say that 70% of the combinations will get you a favorable review. The lesson I can draw from this is that it is really hard to mess up a basic shirt, suit, and tie combination as long as you keep it simple. Keep that in mind as you start to buy suits and dress for the office.
