Men’s Vogue Shutting Down (sorta)

The also-ran of high end Men’s magazines announced it is essentially calling it quits. Men’s Vogue has been downgraded from ten issues a year to two. It won’t even be sold on its own, but will be bagged with regular Vogue twice a year.

I was quick to mock Men’s Vogue when it first came up, but I picked up a few copies and have actually found it a lot more enjoyable than recent editions GQ or Esquire. As both of those pubs tried to compete with the internet for flash and zazz, Men’s Vogue had an simplicity about it that made it a pleasure to read (admittedly without the big name writers I love like Klosterman or Pierce). I was actually planning on subscribing at some point in the next month when I did my annual magazine audit.

I don’t really know specifically why it failed, other than the fact it probably couldn’t sell enough ads, but I am pretty certain it had something to do with the fact that the industry shorthand for the magazine is apparently “Mogue.
