OMG TV: I hate seeing a grown Gladiator cry

Posted by Jeff in , , , , , , , , ,

I feel bad, I forgot to remind everyone to watch American Gladiators last night, and they go and have terrible ratings.  And now look at poor Titan.  NEVER AGAIN.

9:00 – Reaper (CW)

I don’t remember ever typing (CW) before.  Anyway, this is a Josh pick, I guess it has something to do with grain harvesting.

9:05 – Maria Full of Grace (IFC)

In case your evening didn’t have enough horrific abortion, IFC has your back.

9:30 – South Park: “Casa Bonita” (Comedy Central)

An amazing, incredible, classic episode.

Late Night

Regis is on Dave, Evangeline Lilly is on Jay, Steve Carrell is on Conan, John Cusack is on Craig, Bill Moyers is on Jon, and some Titanic lady is on Colbert.

What if I need to see “Young Hercules” Season 2 Episode 4?

Posted by Josh in , , ,

A few weeks back Comedy Central put every episode of “South Park” online. You can now see the modern day classics (“An Elephant Makes Love to a Pig,”) in their entirety and without breaking any of those pesky copyright laws. This got me thinking, what other shows have put every single episode online? I am not counting the fact that you can get any show that has ever existed anywhere via bit torrent (Helllloo “Land of the Lost”). Hulu has an impressive-looking catalog, but some of the shows they list don’t even have complete episodes. Going through Hulu and a few other sources I manages to pull together a loose list of TV shows that you can watch from pilot to often-too-soon finale online:

Seems that the majority are shows online are either shows that were canceled without enough episodes to make a decent DVD box set or shows that wouldn’t do that well on DVD. There are, of course, exceptions to that rule. “South Park,” “Arrested Development,” and “Firefly” are all shows that do pretty well on DVD. I guess they assume that those shows have fans who are rabid enough to watch them online and buy the DVDs.

I am sure I missed some shows, and I didn’t look in all that many sources. Anyone is free to add to this list in the comments.

OMG TV: Battle of the elitists

Posted by Jeff in , , , , , , , ,

8:00 – Democratic Presidential Debate (Everywhere)

All the idiotic bickering on the debate stage recently almost makes me miss the days of Dodd, Biden, Gravel, Richardson, Kucinich and Edwards being up there too. Almost.

8:00 – Black Hawk Down (FX)

Just wait, Sinbad’s going to come out and cast doubt on the veracity of this story too.

10:00 – South Park (Comedy Central)

Matt and Trey have been kickin’ ass this season (though, sure, a bit uneven last week). The 30 second preview posted on southparkstudios.com was enough to get me to tune in tonight.

Late Night

Letterman is forced to revisit his sordid Oscar-hosting past when Uma Thurman swings by, Charles “I’m not Gnarls” Barkley is on Leno, Jackie “I too am not Gnarls” Chan is on Ferguson, Colbert continues his PA swing with the state’s governor and, more importantly, the Eagles Cheerleaders, Stewart has some dude and Conan’s on vacation.

OMG TV: Shows from the Crystal Cave

Posted by Josh in , , , ,

Not much on tonight, even to my less-discerning TV palate. However, I have dug up a few things that should stave off the crippling loneliness of our technoreliant existence.

8:00 pm EST and 10:00 pm EST – Under Seige and Under Seige 2 (TNT)

Your favorite action star/folk musician fights terrorists in the first film and then fights… more terrorists in the second! A double feature of American classics! This would be a good chance to look back on the glory days of terrorist fighting when terrorists were a vague concept and the hero wasn’t always talking on his cell phone.

10:00 pm EST – South Park (Comedy Central)

A new South Park tonight and they have been razor-sharp of late. If you can’t stand waiting until 10, remember that Comedy Central recently put every episode of South park ever online, for free.

10:00 pm EST – Top Chef (Bravo)

Supposedly this is the first episode with major drama, so that might be worth checking out. However, we all know the short dude with the fauxhawk is going to win, so can start kicking people off two at a time so we can get to it?

Late Night

Letterman is a rerun but Leno has Ellen Paige (is the Juno DVD out already?) and Donnie & Marie. Conan has someone (something?) called Tapes ‘N Tapes and I might watch just to see what that is. Stewart has author Steve Coll and Colbert has activist Jeff Gore. Jeff Gore wants to abolish the penny, while I want to abolish crappy fill-in guests.

OMG TV: Kerri Strug’s website traffic puts ours to shame

Posted by Jeff in , , , , , , , , , , ,

9:30 – In Treatment (HBO)

TV’s most addictive nightly series is drawing to a close, and tonight we say goodbye to young gymnast Sophie. Will Paul carry her away into the sunset of sanity, Bela Karolyi style? Or is she just plain nutso?

10:00 – South Park (Comedy Central)

Tonight’s new South Park is apparently an homage to the animated flick Heavy Metal. I do not know anything about this movie, and didn’t even read the Wikipedia page I just linked to. But I mean, South Park‘s usually pretty funny, I suppose. Right? Sure.

10:30 – Lewis Black’s Root of All Evil (Comedy Central)

Caught the Donald Trump vs. Viagra episode of Black’s new show, and aside from feeling a bit too rehearsed, it was pretty damn funny. Tonight’s episode tackles the age old question: which is more evil, beer or weed? Because, you know, crystal meth doesn’t qualify because it’s good at heart.

Late Night

Personal man-crush Brian Williams is on Letterman tonight (as is the great comedienne Judy Greer), Leno is hosting John Krasinski and Joe Torre, Kimmel has John Cusack and the disgustingly virginal Jonas Brothers, and the good hosts (Conan, Colbert, and Stewart) are all still off.
