Wrapup: Finally, baseball with swords

Despite Josh’s conspicuous absence, we are very much back in the swing of things here.  Look for Your Morning News at the regular time tomorrow, and in the meantime, here’s the odds and ends from the day:

• Vulture hates Kanye’s new video, we will let you be the judge.  If you want a guaranteed awesome rap video, how about Jay-Z’s performance of D.O.A. at the BET awards?
• Restaurants are using Twitter to lure in patrons (I noticed a fine local establishment doing the same recently)
• $200 million over 5 days for Robot Fights II
• Your life just got a little less annoying: attachments on Gmail bumped up to 25mb
• Steve Martin doing a Billie Jean impression, from Lorne Michaels’ short-lived The New Show

Wrapup: The distinguished Senator from Tennessee has the floor

More important than the news that Hank Williams Jr. is running for Senate in 2012 is the news that he has a duet with Kid Rock called “Cadillac Pussy.”  Rock.  Now, here’s what else was going down today:

• The Criterion Collection is now streaming films from their (new) website for $5, which comes with a $5 coupon if you want to actually buy the DVD.
• Le bummer: France once had 200,000+ cafes, but they’re down to just 40,000, and two more close every day.
• Some great, pie in the sky hopes from TechPresident that the Obama White House will be absurdly transparent and online.
• Hee hee, CC Sabathia is fat.
• Google Maps has a number of interface improvements, especially when it comes to Street View.  Smart move.
• Hugo Chavez is gay for Russian sailors.

Corrections Department

In today’s OMG TV, I neglected to pass brief judgment on Jon Stewart’s musical number in the Colbert Christmas special.  I apologize.  For what it’s worth, I’ll give it a “heh, heh.”

Wrapup: Because even Rambo needs a little help sometimes

The best $5 you can spend in Los Angeles on alternating Monday nights would of course be Human Giant performing at the UCB Theatre.  Tonight’s show featured a most excellent live DVD commentary on Rambo featuring, among others, Stallone’s fluffer.  Nice.

• The South Park guys are going to Broadway, by way of Salt Lake City
• Sign of the apocolypse: you can order Domino’s through your TiVo
• Come on, the new Star Trek trailer is awesome

Wrapup: Oh God it’s late

Just got back from a midnight screening of Quantum of Solace, details to follow in tomorrow’s Multiplex Madness.  Now for some links we’ve been saving up:

• Wired runs down some of the world’s best doomsday devices
• Could Joe the Plumber’s shelf life actually be longer than Sarah Palin’s?  His new website makes the case.
• Applying for a government job?  Hope you remember all your screennames.  Even you, hotphoenixstud6969.
• Some of Prince Charles’ private correspondence.  No word as to whether or not he uses emoticons.
• Saturday night boom: Two new womens for SNL.  Chris Elliott’s daughter should not be that attractive.
• Saturday night bust: MadTV canceled.  Let’s hope they manage to destroy all the tapes too.

Wrapup: Pyramid schemes

They’re still finding new pyramids? Time to invest in a shovel. Also:

• Get to know your booze.
• Epidemiology via Google search tracking.  Hee hee, I just had an immature idea.
• Secret service nicknames announced: “Renegade” (Barack), “Renaissance” (Michelle), “Radiance” (Malia) and “Rosebud” (Sasha).

Unrelatedly, I’m not so sure about the fifth season of The Wire so far (couple episodes in).  Just throwin that one out there.
